ราชบัณฑิตยสถานได้กำหนดศัพท์บัญญัติของคำว่า Template ไว้ว่า แผ่นแบบ (ศัพท์คอมพิวเตอร์ ๑๙ มิ.ย. ๒๕๔๔)

The Computer Folks Glossary ได้ให้ความหมายของคำว่า Document template ดังนี้ A preformatted document into which the user types text.

Wikipedia ได้ให้ความหมายของคำว่า Template ดังนี้ A preformatted file type that can be used to quickly create a specific file.
